Croutons “Poor Knight” are very tasty, and most importantly – fragrant and unique. For their preparation, white bread is used, you can take an ordinary loaf or square-shaped bread, toast. If there is a desire, then you can cut out any shape from the bread, and only then proceed to fry them. The ingredient that makes croutons original and flavorful is cinnamon. It is thanks to her that the dish turns out so unusual.
Two types of batter are also prepared, one is egg, and the second is milk with the addition of cinnamon and sugar. You can fry the croutons in a pan in a small amount of vegetable oil, or you can send them to the oven. In the second case, the dish will come out less greasy.
Ingredients:
- Bread – a few pieces.
- Egg – 1 pc.
- Cinnamon – 1 pinch.
- Sugar – 1 tbsp. l.
- Milk – 50 ml.
- Butter or vegetable oil – for frying.
Cooking:
1. Pour milk into a bowl.
Milk can be replaced with cream.
2. Add sugar and cinnamon to it.
You can add other spices, for example, nutmeg and even ginger.
3. Mix everything very well with a whisk or beat a little with a mixer.
4. In another bowl, beat the chicken egg.
5. Dip a piece of bread on both sides first in milk batter.
6. After that, dip it in egg batter.
7. Put the butter in the pan, melt it, and then lay out the pieces of bread.
8. Put the pan on a moderate heat. Grill the croutons over moderate heat for 40 seconds on each side. They should acquire a beautiful and golden color.
9. Transfer the finished Poor Knight croutons to a dish and serve them immediately. You can sprinkle some extra sugar on top. You can serve croutons just like that, or you can pour them with jam or topping.
